Since I posted my last Happy Thursday post, a lot has changed. While it's mostly because I've been a terrible blogger, it's also because there has been a lot of change in my life. One change significant to Thursday-love is that I now work Sunday through Thursday, making Thursdays my Fridays (my ThurFridays according to my good friend Tanya) which only augments their "the whole weekend is ahead of me" appeal.
But this Thursday? Not so good, so far. Not awful, just rainy and would have rather stayed in bed, headache that will not be cured by mocha, mom out of cell phone contact when I need her for cooking and life advice, these types of struggles. So today I post not one but two videos for cheering up purposes and to get this Thursday correct!
So get to livin' and doing cat stuff (WHAT?!) like relaxing and stretching and eating and being bossy and nosy. And Happy ThurFriday to us all!

Yo!Ga!
The greatest thing about practicing yoga is the attitude changes. It's the only form of exercise besides dancing that doesn't feel like work to me. I know I must be building muscles and endurance and confidence because how else can you possibly explain the changes that have happened to my practice? (Yes, "split personality" or "flightiness" would explain them. But I'm pretty sure yogi's don't believe in those things. They are too zen.)
-When my teacher said, "So, yeah, just push the earth away with your hands, kick your legs for a while and pretty soon: handstand!"* I thought, "No. I will do your scissor kicks with my hands on the floor. That is all." Today, anticipating my yoga class tonight, I keep thinking, "I hope we do some sort of inversion, preferably a handstand. I could so go for an L-shaped handstand tonight, with a side of pendulum kicks and maybe I'll get both feet off the floor!"
-Pigeon pose. Oh how I hated you. How long I hated you. You made my feet fall asleep and you made me crabby and I would try to breathe and not chant, "Enough, enough, enough, enough *$#&*^ pigeon pose, enough..." Last week, I requested you. Hips? Still not that open, but my attitude is adjusted enough to make me actually want to do the poses I need. I need me some Pigeon pose.
-I read a yoga magazine a few months ago with an article all about Wild Thing and thought, "Wow, someday, years from now, maybe I will try Wild Thing and not break my back or fall on the floor. Two weeks ago, I totally did Wild Thing SEVERAL TIMES. My back remains intact and that did not make me fall on the floor. I almost fell out of Dancer's Pose, but that was because of cockiness. Which is very un-yoga.
See?! Yoga is so good for a positive attitude! And for muscles and every other thing! I love it.
Note: Do not be an idiot and try these yoga poses at home without proper instruction or help (like this one "friend" I have, who is TOTALLY not me, who thought it would be a super great idea to try Half Moon at home with nothing but my- I mean her box set of Indiana Jones DVDs as a block and a coffee table to "catch" me- I mean her. It ended in tears.)
*My yoga teacher does not talk like that. She is awesome.

Locked and Loaded 2011
2010, bleh.
I can't think of anything remarkable in 2010. To be fair, I can think of some remarkable 2010 stuff, but most of it happened to other people. And worse than nothing remarkable happening, I don't have much record of 2010. I didn't write much, I didn't take many pictures. I wasn't keeping track.
For 2011, I want to make some remarkable stuff happen and I want to keep track of what happens to me, remarkable or mundane. I have high hopes: my sister is about to have a baby any minute now (come on, kid!), I will start grad school in a week and I have some potential traveling in the works.
I'm charging my camera battery and writing this blog entry, so that's a start. Now I should probably change out of my pajamas and actually do some stuff.
Here I go!

Things that happen when I'm bored
Yesterday was my pj's and knitting day. So when I got up this morning, I jumped right in the shower and got all ready for a day out running errands. And my car didn't start. No big deal, I thought. I'll just...knit some more. I've got lots of knitting to do! And movies to watch! Not having a car will be fun! I'll call this day, "Snowbound inside a cozy house with all the amenities: the Samantha Minnis story" and Lifetime will be knocking down my door for the made-for-TV movie rights!
Or will they?
Things I've done today:
1) Curled my hair until I put Farrah Fawcett to shame and shellacked it into place.
2) Some laundry.
3) Plenty of knitting.
4) Drank many cups of tea.
5) Watched Pee-Wee's Christmas 2 1/2 times.
6) Talked to Laura and Nan and Jess.
7) Did dishes.
8) Watched The Nightmare Before Christmas.
9) Checked Facebook once or twice (times a billion).
10) Tried starting the car again.
11) Hoped that I can easily fix my car. Worried that I can't.
12) Read a little.
13) Called Laura again.
14) Looked at imdb to figure out who the voice actors were in The Nightmare Before Christmas.
15) Looked at Petfinder for Boston Terriers or French Bulldogs that might need a home.
16) Wrote this blog.
Things I haven't done today:
1) Finished any task.
2) Cleaned the bedroom.
3) Cleaned the basement.
4) Packed for Casey's parent's house.
5) Vacuumed.
6) Any of the organization I wanted to do on my break.
7) Seen another human.
Unless I overcome something soon, Lifetime probably won't care. If I do manage to save a neighbor from an abusive husband or save all three cats from the evils of napping, I would request that Tori Spelling not have anything to do with the Lifetime movie.
Thank you.

If everyone keeps all ten fingers, we call it success.
That was stuck in my head when I woke up this morning. You're welcome.
Last night I taught the last of a 3 week series of knitting classes at JoAnn Fabrics. All day yesterday I was dreading it: I've been tired and fighting a sinus infection all week and it meant going from my 8-5 job right to JoAnn's and not getting home until close to 9. But the minute the students showed up, I was completely re-energized. I find it really rewarding to describe a technique to a student who three weeks ago had never knit before and watch that student successfully cable and make increases and decreases. I love it and I can't wait for classes to start again in January. There were a few nail biting moments last night, though, because a high school girl showed up and for a second I was worried she was a better knitter than me and that I wouldn't be able to answer her questions, let alone teach her. To make things even more interesting, her mother had been in a quilting class I took a couple of years ago where on the first day of class I almost cut my finger tip off with the rotary cutter. So, you know, not a vote of confidence that she should leave her child with me. Her expert knitter child. Anyway, the kid didn't need much help, but I think she was grateful to be in a group of people who didn't make fun of her for being a big knitting nerd. We had a lot of fun, everyone learned how to cable and no one (not even me) came close to losing a finger. If you want to take a class with me next semester, please be assured that I will at least pretend to be one step ahead of you in knitting prowess (except for you Erica, I know you are my knitting lord and master), and you should be able to leave class in one piece.

And a very ragey Friday to you, sir!
You guys. Happy Rage Friday.
If you've never celebrated a Rage Friday before, let me introduce you to the concept.
The History of Rage Friday:
One rainy Friday morning, two library pages were on desk duty at the local public library. Bleary eyed (and probably a little hungover), they stood (slouched) waiting for a patron. Suddenly, from the Community room came shreiks and growls and all manner of carrying on. The door flew open and 25 children with paper dinosaur heads came roaring (literally) out. The children's librarian followed, also wearing a paper dinosaur head and offered the hapless pages some left over muffins (maybe cupcakes, there is much debate in the lore of Rage Friday). The pages ate the muffins (cupcakes, whatever) and so commenced a strange day, filled with weekend anticipation and public library shenanigans. The strangeness of the day was blamed on the cupmuffins which were thought to be infested with the Rage of the roaring dinosaur-child hybrids and from that day on, whenever a Friday started with a treat and got weirder and weirder until it ended with whiskey shots at the Bird, that day would be known as a Rage Friday. Fin.
One page was me and the other was Jason, a legend for his slacker abilities (shelf-reading, napping, same thing, right?) and three piece suits. I think the best thing about Rage Friday is that it's a surprise holiday. For example, today I got up and did my normal morning routine: trip over cat, go for run, shower, coffee, oatmeal, make lunch, rush out the door. Everything seemed normal at work too, just another Friday. Then BAM! someone says, "Hey there are donuts in the next office if you want one, and hey did you know that both of our bosses are going to a meeting and there's hardly any work to do?" and before I know what hit me, I'm eating a double chocolate doughnut from Robaires and riding the sugar high into another wacky day.
Whiskey, anyone?

Dance Party Thursday
Hello everyone and welcome to Thursday, my most favorite day of the week! The weekend is all stretched ahead with only one more piddly day of work in my way. Thursday is the day I catch up on a week's worth of DVRed Daily Shows, Colbert Reports, Dirty Jobs, and Mythbusters, the day I don't do any chores, the day I knit a whole sock (I hope) because I have a Friday deadline set. Thursdays are for after work cocktails and getting into pj's immediately after coming home.
Let us all dance with ELO in honor of Thursdays!
