Happy Thursday, one and all! I only have two days of work left before the Winter Holiday Season starts and there is a festive feeling all around work. Also, a lot of cookies and candy, of which I am highly in favor. Because I can't give you all cookies and the holidays don't make everyone happy, here are just some general (with maybe just one holiday related) happy things I found (or were pointed out to me) from around the internet. Because we all know that what the internet is truly good for is pictures of cute animals and funny gifs. After the dissemination of knowledge, blah blah blah.
I could watch cats jump and miss all day long. It's one of the main reasons I have cats in my house.
If you are in the mood for something a little Christmassy, there's this funny story of NORAD's Santa Tracking service and how it got an unexpected start.
I gotta say, I was a little overwhelmed in trying to think what to post for Happy Thursday. It's the second happiest of all Thursdays because it's Shark Week Thursday (the first happiest Thursday of them all is Thanksgiving). AND it's the President's birthday AND it's payday (well, for me its payday, and I hope it is for you as well!)! What's a girl to post about that could possibly encapsulate that much happiness?! Well, here's a whole bunch of happy and shark related stuff that hopefully does the trick. The cat video at the end has nothing to do with sharks, but it's the best thing I've seen all week. The language is EXTREMEMLY foul, so you've been warned. Don't watch it at work and don't watch it if you have delicate sensibilities regarding the f-word.
On to the happy sharkiness:
At my shark week celebration tomorrow, we will be eating:
-Windmill cookies :more for nostalgia reasons as my cousin recently remembered our grandma serving these to us with cranberry juice. But it will be fun pretending to be a shark big enough to eat a windmill.
-cranberry juice: blood red like the blood that attracts sharks! (also, see above for nostalgia).
-Swedish fish: for sharkily obvious reasons.
-Sourpatch kids: for similar, grosser, sharkily obvious reasons.
-chips and salsa: I plan to sing the jaws theme while navigating my dorsal fins (chips) through the ocean (salsa).
-Wine: red, for the same reason as the cranberry juice. (We will hold off until later in the evening to break this out though, I promise)
As an obsessive list maker, a book lover and someone who handles at least 100-200 book titles in a work day, I honestly don't know how I made it without Shelfari.
Ok, I do know how I made it: badly and at the expense of my sanity. Starting as a library page, after all my library jobs I would come home from work with pockets and purse full of scrap paper covered in book titles. I would also come home with piles of books that stayed in their piles until they were overdue because I could not bear to let them circulate outside of my reach but I did not have the time to read them.
Then, a couple of years ago, a friend told me about Shelfari. Go, look now. Are you amazed?! I now have a way of keeping track of ALL of the book titles I want to read. I can keep track of ALL of the books I have read. I can obsess over my little list, I can see when I added them, when I read them, and make arbitrary decisions about which book to read next.
This has been life changing for me. When a book comes across my desk, be it a knitting book, a biography of some strange and interesting person, a new book by a favorite author, or just a book with a pretty cover (I would feel worse about blatantly judging a book by its cover if my friend who owns a bookstore didn't have the same weakness for superficial book beauty. But as long as I have company in this frivolous predilection, I feel fine) I just add it to Shelfari and I can let it go along its merry way. No more book hoarding, no more serial-killer-looking lists of book titles. Shelfari, you complete me.
